Supreme Court Nominations & Losing Gracefully...

Supreme court nominations are a power of the President. The framers of the constitution intended House and Senate review of those nominations to check and balance the actions of the president.

So the president is elected by republic voting, as are the members of both Houses. Something comes through from the elected president, the elected house is supposed to vote on it. If it fails, it goes back for retooling. If it passes, it moves on...

Where does a filibuster come in? It comes in when the minor side of the house in question knows that something is coming down the pipe that will likely be voted down - and when that minor side of the house desperately wants it to be passed.

Please, someone tell me, how is that NOT a simple extension of a five year old's temper-tantrum?? If you know you can't get your way and the parents are about to vote down your recent snack requests, what's left to do? Either maturely accept defeat because your parents are currently at the top and have the say... or scream and whine until something happens. A five year old isn't mature enough to understand that the latter gets them nowhere.

You'd think members of the Houses would realize that if something is voted on and does not pass, that it is not POPULAR enough to pass. Just because these people feel SO strongly about whatever it is does NOT mean the rest of us feel nearly as strongly or even in the same direction!

GROW THE HELL UP! When Bush's nominations come down for the High Court, VOTE on them. If the whole house votes them down, GREAT! If they pass them, WONDERFUL! But at least VOTE on them so that the SYSTEM has a chance to continue. If you hide elsewhere drinking martini's just to short-circuit the American Way, you are no better than a five year old.
